Yew Tree Gallery
‘Joie de Vivre’ (12 June – 31 July) – conceived to counter the grim, restless state of the world – expresses joyous and pleasurable moments in daily life in Simon Pooley’s mixed media canvases, Charlotte Lyon’s humorous drawings, automata by Esther Smith, wire sculpture by Mel Day, papier mache by Ardyn Griffin and Derek Nice’s wooden angels to watch over all. Sea-glass jewellery by Gina Cowan is especially joyful! John Maltby adds his idiosyncratic touch in his figurative sculptures.
To mark Rose Hilton’s 85th year, her pastels, drawings and oils, particularly focusing on the figure, adorn the main gallery walls, balanced by David Garland’s ceramics and Guy Royle’s jewellery. Jenny Ryrie’s atmospheric mixed media paintings take over the other room with David’s tableware from 4 September – 31 October.
Visitors are welcome to walk round the gardens, enjoy a cuppa in the Potting Shed, and marvel at the view of the wide Atlantic.
Two exhibitions opened Yew Tree’s new season on 3 April. In ‘Kaleidoscope’ David Kemp created patterns from swirls of colour in his recent watercolours of the Penwith peninsula; echoed in Peter Layton’s fine studio glass and the pottery of Chris Barnes. New jewellery in rainbow tones by Duibhne Gough rounded off this show. ‘Lore of The Land’, was curated by Miranda Leonard, showing artists of her choice. Until 21 May.
Open 10.30am - 5pm during exhibitions; other times by appointment. Closed Mondays except Bank holidays.
The gallery is in the courtyard of Keigwin Farmhouse, near Morvah and Pendeen, TR19 7TS (on B3306 coast road). 01736 786425. Email gilly@yewtreegallery.com
